Animation
In 2008 I was fortunate enough to be involved in the Youth Animation Project through the Quickdraw Animation society.
I chose to do an animation for the Calgary Police Services. This animation would be used by their Hate Crimes Education unit during school presentations.
The animation is semi-autobiographical. The main character, a wolf, is faced with the pressure to choose a label for the sake of fitting in. Ultimately, when she realises she must define herself, she is also able to see that those who matter will accept her for who she is.
This 00:02:48 animation took six months to complete. During this time I not only was able to work on my own stop-animation claymation, but I learned all animation techniques including computer, cutout, and classic hand drawn cell animation.
It was an incredible experience which gave me a great respect and understanding for animation and the work involved. I hope to revisit this creative outlet many more times as it was something I thoroughly enjoyed.
